Taiyuan & Xi'an: The Soul of North China

This collection explores the duality of North China—the ancient imperial legacy of Xi’an and the raw, industrial grit of Taiyuan. Separated by only a few hundred miles, these two cities represent the foundation of Chinese civilization and its modern transformation.

In Xi’an, the ancient gateway of the Silk Road, my lens captures the enduring rhythm of tradition within the city’s massive stone walls. In Taiyuan, I sought the "quiet dignity" found in the textures of heavy industry and the resilient spirit of its people. By bringing these two cities together, this observational study documents the intersection of history and labor, showing a side of China that is deeply authentic and rarely seen by the Western eye.
